In October of 2018 a group of former U.S. Army Combat Engineer Officers and Vietnam veterans, who were classmates at officer candidate school in 1968, held our fifty-year reunion in San Antonio, Texas. As a practicing architect, it occurred to me that a tour of some of the city’s historical sights would be well received by our group.
The local chapter of the American Institute of Architects put me in touch with Jane Martin who, through her organization, ARCHITOURS, conducted an extensive tour of the city’s famed River Walk. Jane’s knowledge was incredibly impressive, and her lively presentation of information – both historical and contemporary – about the River Walk district was superb.
Our group of twenty or so veterans and spouses were completely enthralled, and among the comments that followed were, “this tour was the highlight of our trip” and “this was a truly delightful learning experience.” I can’t imagine that anyone could have made our morning more interesting or worthwhile, and I give the highest accolades to Jane and ARCHITOURS.
